The Bucks County Orchid Society meets at 7:30 pm on the third Thursday of each month at the Churchville Nature Center, in Churchville, PA.

History

This year marks the 25th anniversary of The Bucks County Orchid Society. Evelyn Goldberg, one of our original founding members, recounts the tale:

One fine October evening in 1983, about twenty-five orchid enthusiasts gathered in a tiny room of the Tamanend Park farmhouse, in beautiful Bucks County, PA, to hear Michael Bodrie deliver a most informative seminar on the culture and growing of orchids for the layperson. So educational and knowledgeable was this session, it was suggested the group meet again the following month and form the Bucks County Orchid Club.

Word spread about this group of orchid-lovers, and in a short period of time, its membership more than doubled. People came from near and far to discuss their passion for these beautiful, and sometimes challenging, plants. In this group of people were novices (with one plant) and top professional orchid growers. Age ranges of these dedicated diehards were from teen to an octogenarian or two, all showing their love for these blooming beauties. Thus, came about theformation of the Bucks County Orchid Society, as it affiliated with the American Orchid Society,in February 1984, as a bona fide organization.

The legacy of that dedicated group continues today, meeting every third Thursday to:

  • Exchange ideas and experiences
  • Discuss problems and solutions
  • Hear informative presentations from guest speakers
  • Display orchids and observe other specimens
  • Participate in regional shows and programs
  • Use the society’s library of books, magazines and videos

We invite you to attend our next meeting to share in this legacy.
